This year, my boyfriend and I were determined to go - as soon as we found out what our tax returns would be. We (or I) nervously waited to hear back and Friday night before the second batch of tickets went out, we knew we would be able to make it.
Saturday, the excitement grew and grew on Twitter. We checked and double checked (and checked again) to make sure our information was correct, that we had a payment method ready and we downloaded Google Chrome for the faster reload time on the website - Thanks Rhidach!
The time counted down, we had all the pages open and ready. 3 minutes to 1pm I started refreshing the ticket page. There were a few times where it seemed like the website had to pick up its socks and handle the influx of hopeful gamers. Otherwise, the reload time was much faster than my go-to browser.
Suddenly, BOOM! The checkout box! In the wrong place! Argh! We clicked through and found ourselves at a respectable 1740 and 1860 - clearly Chronis is faster at clicking than I am, but I blame the checkout box being moved.
We breathed a sigh of relief, but watching the stock tick down so fast was disconcerting. We communicated with another couple to see if they we getting their tickets at the time too. Then, as we waited we debated picking up an extra ticket. We ended up grabbing three total (the other couple did as well) and now there's two more people from our guild who can make it. The excitement of the whole process was new for us but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish we could have grabbed more tickets for people but even one extra was stretching the limit.
Just a snippet of the excitement on Twitter |
We haven't booked hotels or flights yet, but we're looking at the same place we stayed two years ago and this time we'll probably drive into Buffalo for way cheaper flights. Seriously, flight prices to California from Ontario are just ridiculous.
I'm really looking forward to meeting up with my guildmates, there's at least 10 of us going and last time we had a blast hanging out and drinking by the pool (bar) together. I'm looking forward to the opening ceremony, seeing all the cosplay, and sitting in on more panels. There's been some talk of ALL THE TANKS getting together so that will probably consist of all the awesome tanks I follow/read blogs of and then me in the corner being shellshocked.
I missed the costume contest last year, so I'm going to make it my mission to get there and see it this year. I'm looking forward to all the meetups and I'm planning on finding all the druids (and former druids) I can. I also want to meet as many people from Twitter as possible. There are people I want to meet that I've met via Twitter and I'm so glad so many of us can make it. Ceraphus put together this huge Twitter list of all the attendees that we know of https://twitter.com/Ceraphus/blizzcon2013 . Go check it out!
Topping off this post, I have a code for a Lil XT that was given to me (last August, for shame) by Opheron on Twitter. If you're going to BlizzCon, watching via the Virtual Ticket or waiting to hear what the news is, leave a comment here about what you're looking forward to this year at BlizzCon! If you don't want the pet, but still want to leave a comment that's ok! Just let me know in your comment. I'll announce the winner via my blog and on Twitter May 14th.
Are you waiting for news about Titan? Looking for new costumes to drool over? Anticipating WoW news? Excited to meet anyone in particular? Hoping to catch Ghostcrawler at breakfast? Hoping to hear about something I missed?
Let me know and you'll have a chance to win a Lil XT - I hear he's a great battle pet to have!
** I won't be accepting any more entries after May 12th at 12:00pm. One entry per person, even if you comment multiple times. I'll choose the winner via a random draw.
I'm super excited to see many friends I've made over the years!
ReplyDeleteI remember two years ago we went and met so many people that we'd been playing with, it was great!
DeleteOrdinarily it would be the pet but if I were going I'd love to be able to meet the fantastic people I've met from the game/twitter/blogging.
ReplyDeleteYeah, meeting people is one of the best things hands down.
DeleteI'm most excited to meet lots of guild and Twitter people! I also want to go to more parties this time (and spend less time in a line trying to change the name on my badge).
ReplyDeleteHaha, I think this time around you'll be much better off in regards to time spent in line :P
DeleteLucky people! Been tryng to get tix to BlizzCon for a few years now, never get any though. There must be a blockade on at the U.S. / Canada border! Hahaha! Have fun, and take a HUGE sign or something to wave about so us unlucky non attendees can spot ya having fun for all!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I got here via a tweet from @Cymre
P.S. how about adding a Twitter profile to the "Comment as:" dropdown!
I don't know how to add that actually and everything I've looked up so far points to it not being available anymore. Something to do with Twitter's API?
DeleteYou can select Name/URL from the dropdown menu and use your handle as the URL though!
Both the blessing and curse: meeting and hanging out the impossible number of people that I'd like to over the course of two days. At this point if I manage to run into half of them I should consider it a success.
ReplyDeleteAlso, coming up with new t-shirt ideas that are as good as last time.
Absolutely, I'm worried I might not have enough time to meet all the people I want to and to get to the panels I want to see as well.
DeleteWe're looking at t-shirts too!
Looking forward to seeing everyone's Tweets during that time, since I can't go =(
ReplyDeleteI don't think you'll be lacking in Twitter info to keep you updated, there's over 200 people on Twitter (that I know of) who are going :D
DeleteI expect much live tweeting of the festivities! /jealous
ReplyDeleteLast year we had issues with the reception in the building itself, so there will probably be very little and then ALL THE TWEETS at once.
DeleteI'm still a little overwhelmed that I'm going, I'm having a hard time picking one thing to be excited about. Going to be meeting a few guildies down there, which will be awesome (snagged reservations at the same hotel as a few of them, might go to Disney with them on Sunday if my flight leaves late enough). But then there's all the people I've met via Twitter that I'm going to have to hunt down, any theoretical tank meetup, expansion announcements (maybe?)... Going to be so much to do I'm not sure where to start.
ReplyDeleteI made a list of panels I wanted to see, and parties I wanted to get to so that I made sure I got most of my list checked off. The weekend is a total whirlwind so the best you can do is just go with it and enjoy!
DeleteYay i was subtly mentioned as being the other couple! :D
ReplyDelete2 years ago when Raym and i went we actually didn't attend many events at Blizzcon itself. Sure we saw the big important announcements and such, but we skipped a lot of the other stuff to just "chill". I'm not a die hard enough fan to attend everything possible, and know pretty much noone from outside of the guild going to arrange other meetups. Frankly, coming from Canada... i'd rather be outside as much as possible in the warm(er) weather, and spend time with guildmates.
Pretty sure Raym will want to see the costume event this go around though (slept in and missed it last time i think). She wanted to make a costume for it, but lost motivation.
I missed the costume contest too, and I was really angry about it. I can't remember why... but it probably had something to do with that pool bar.
DeleteI look forward to Navispamming you Kaleri before you go to sleep this time :D
ReplyDeleteAhaha! Awesome :D
DeleteJust a note that I will not be accepting any more entries. Good luck everyone!
ReplyDeleteI will announce the winner tomorrow on a new blog post.
